Any student of music should learn to appreciate a wider context for what he or she is doing. I like to draw on my diverse background to more deeply inform and inspire my students. At the same time, I believe in a rigorous method, rooted in musical literacy and understanding. I encourage decision-making on the part of my students, so that they feel as though they truly own their performances (or their compositions, as the case may be!)
