I believe every musician should be equipped to engage with a sense of play at the instrument, in the truest sense of the word. To some people, "play" means improvising over a blues, to others, it means reciting Beethoven sonatas at a high level, to others, it means playing free jazz, and to others it means composing minuets - ultimately, music should be about doing what you want, when you want. As a teacher all I want to do is find the fastest, soundest way to get my students to that place.
I have attended the following schools and programs for my education:
MacEwan University - Bachelor of Music in Jazz and Contemporary Pop.
Currently I am completing my Masters degree in Classical piano performance at the University of Alberta. My principal instructors in the academic world have included Tom Van Seters, Chris Andrew, Jim Lewis, Mark Segger, Patricia Tao, Viktoria Reiswich-Dapp, and Deborah Cleaver. Outside of school, I play a number of pop and jazz gigs professionally, serving as solo piano performer, and sideman for players like Calvin Love, Justine Vandergrift, Jon Guenter, Eamon McGrath, Aladean Kheroufi, Zia Mizera, and more.
- TD Ottawa Jazz Fest Award 2017
- I completed the 2017 TD Ottawa Jazz Festival. At the time I received the TD Ottawa Jazz Festival award. - My technical teaching borrows heavily from the Taubman approach. For the past year I've been taking lessons with Taubman teacher Deborah Cleaver.
