I firmly believe that music should be an enjoyable experience for both the listener and the performer. Having experienced the challenges of maintaining interest during lessons, I make it a priority to keep lessons fun and engaging by tailoring them to suit each student's needs and learning style. Each student is unique, and discovering what works best for them is part of the joy of teaching.
I encourage students to learn music they are passionate about, while also ensuring they tackle pieces that challenge them technically, so they continue to grow and improve. Striking this balance allows them to progress while staying motivated and excited about their musical journey.
My most recent academic accomplishment was a Bachelor of Music from the University of British Columbia. I also hold a ARCT Diploma for Performers from the Royal Conservatory of Music. I am classically trained and have studied with notable pianists: Keiko Alexander and Amanda Chan.
During my leisure time, I have the privilege of taking private voice lessons with the soprano, Laura Widgett. Singing is such a personal experience, as your instrument is your own body! It can make one feel vulnerable when singing in front of others. Understanding this, I am dedicated to creating a safe and supportive studio environment for my students. There will never be any harsh judgment on the sound they produce. If the student is open to it, I also provide basic voice lessons that can benefit their ear training, sight singing, and sight-reading skills.
