Teaching Philosophy

I believe Music has a unique capability to allow anyone to express themselves. The reason why I got into music was because I was listening to a song and felt the overwhelming need to connect to it at a deeper level than just listening. I also often find myself running to find my guitar when I can't express my emotions and need an outlet. This is something that I believe is unique and special about music, and it is something that everyone could and should have. The ability to both express and convey emotion is in my opinion what makes music so wonderful, no matter what the emotions may be. Happiness, sadness, loneliness or even anger, hatred, they are all part of life and as such integral to the human experience. I believe music allows for the exploration of these emotions that exist within as all and, as such, is important for all of us to find ways to express them. I found my way in music.

Musical Education

I have attended the following schools earning the following degrees:
- EMMAT music institution in Bogota, Colombia Pre-University program
- Vanier College DEC in Professional Music and Song Tecniques
- Currently enrolled in Concordia University Music Department on the Electroacoustic Studies Program

I am a guitarist trained in Jazz from Vanier college and continue to take University level Jazz guitar lessons at Concordia. I had piano lessons as a kid for several years and eventually earned a scholarship to a music insitiution in Colombia called EMMAT where I prepared myself to apply to study music in Canada, this is how I ended up in Vanier College and eventually Concordia University. I have also during these studies taking both piano lessons (as part of the Vanier College professional program) and singing lessons given that I am a singer/songrwitter (this done independently from college or university studies.

Special Skills and Training

I am currently enrolled and studying both in university and on my own the fields of recording, mixing, mastering and sound design which allow for very different but important sonic expressions. Especially in a world where as an artist people are moving towards the DIY route more and more. These days it's not enough to be a good singer or guitarist, you also need to be a producer, manager, an entepreneur. I have had a lot of experience managing my band for the past 4 years and currently am in the process of becoming self sufficient. Meaning I write/perform the songs, record/mix/master and release the songs, book the gigs, promote the band, everything on my own! I would also like to mention that I am a very prolific songwriter, meaning simply, I write a lot of songs (most of which I don't keep, only the best ones get performed and recorded) but I have a lot of experience in songwriting as well as tecniques for singing and playing an instrument simultaneously.

30 Minutes: $39.00
45 Minutes: $49.00
60 Minutes: $59.00

There is a one-time registration fee of 25 $ charged with the first lessons. All Taxes are included in prices, if applicable

NOTE: Your Credit card will be charged ONLY when the first lesson is set up and confirmed with the teacher

1. Cancellation Policy

Lessons not cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice are billable to the client and payable to the teacher. This does not of course apply to travel fees unless the notice is effectively given at the door and the teacher has travelled to the location.

2. Cessation (quitting) Policy

A client must provide a 2 lesson notice period to stop lessons. So a weekly student needs to give 2 weeks of notice, a biweekly student works out to 3 weeks notice and a twice weekly student works out to a week of notice.

3. Illness Policy

Lessons cancelled due to illness or extraordinary circumstances with less than 24 hours notice remain billable to the client and payable to the teacher.

BAH teachers are encouraged to offer a make-up lesson at a future date in the interest of client relations and general goodwill. This only makes sense as teaching a student with the flu for example, will ruin the rest of your week's employment.

No more than 2 lessons may be made up due to illness within a 60 day period.

4. Rescheduling Policy

Any lesson can be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice.

Summer Vacation and Extended Absence Policy

Clients may schedule longer absences for trips etc. 24 hours notice is required.

It is normal and typical for students and about 20% of our teachers to schedule a break in the summer. We do not enforce a notice period (see cessation of lessons) at the end of a long summer break.

5. Evaluation Period

There are no free trial lessons with Beethoven at Home but we do offer a 2 lesson evaluation period where it is easy to try out a teacher. There are no free lessons during the evaluation period and clients may choose to discontinue the lessons at any time by providing the required 24 hours notice. After the student's 3rd lesson the required 2 lesson notice period will apply (see cessation of lessons above).
