Teaching Philosophy

My goal is to ignite a true passion for music within you. Whether you seek to learn for fun, prepare for exams, or fulfill a lifelong dream of playing the piano, we will work together to achieve your aspirations! I have experience teaching students of all ages, ranging from 4-year-olds to adults, and I take great joy in helping them grow their understanding of music and flourish as pianists.

In my spare time, I also enjoy serving as a choir accompanist, furthering my musical engagement and dedication. Together, we will explore the wonderful world of music and uncover the joys of piano playing!

Musical Education

From a young age of 7, I began studying piano, diving into the world of music through the ivory keys. I diligently pursued my passion and undertook exams from the esteemed Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM). As my skills flourished, I set my sights on achieving the coveted Associate Diploma, an esteemed accolade that stands testament to my dedication and commitment to the art of piano.

Throughout my musical journey, I have been fortunate to learn from various classically trained piano teachers, each one a guiding light in my musical exploration. Their nurturing guidance and unwavering belief in my potential fueled my love for music and kindled the fire within me to strive for excellence. Their mentorship has been a profound influence on my artistic growth, and I am forever grateful for the invaluable lessons they imparted.

As a classically trained pianist, I continue to find profound joy and fulfillment in my musical pursuits, driven by the never-ending pursuit of refining my craft and expressing emotions through the melodies I create.

Special Skills and Training

As a certified member of the Alberta Registered Music Teachers Association (ARMTA), I am dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in piano education. I actively engage in professional development workshops and meaningful discussions with esteemed piano teachers. This commitment allows me to continuously refine my teaching techniques, ensuring that my students not only succeed but also find genuine enjoyment in playing the piano. The support and camaraderie I find within the music teaching community inspire me to be a better educator and to foster a lifelong love for music in my students. Having received classical training and successfully completed the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) exams, including obtaining my Associate (ARCT) Diploma, I am well-equipped to guide you on your musical journey.

Policies

1. Cancellation Policy

Lessons not cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice are billable to the client and payable to the teacher. This does not of course apply to travel fees unless the notice is effectively given at the door and the teacher has travelled to the location.

2. Cessation (quitting) Policy

A client must provide a 2 lesson notice period to stop lessons. So a weekly student needs to give 2 weeks of notice, a biweekly student works out to 3 weeks notice and a twice weekly student works out to a week of notice.

3. Illness Policy

Lessons cancelled due to illness or extraordinary circumstances with less than 24 hours notice remain billable to the client and payable to the teacher.

BAH teachers are encouraged to offer a make-up lesson at a future date in the interest of client relations and general goodwill. This only makes sense as teaching a student with the flu for example, will ruin the rest of your week's employment.

No more than 2 lessons may be made up due to illness within a 60 day period.

4. Rescheduling Policy

Any lesson can be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice.

Summer Vacation and Extended Absence Policy

Clients may schedule longer absences for trips etc. 24 hours notice is required.

It is normal and typical for students and about 20% of our teachers to schedule a break in the summer. We do not enforce a notice period (see cessation of lessons) at the end of a long summer break.

5. Evaluation Period

There are no free trial lessons with Beethoven at Home but we do offer a 2 lesson evaluation period where it is easy to try out a teacher. There are no free lessons during the evaluation period and clients may choose to discontinue the lessons at any time by providing the required 24 hours notice. After the student's 3rd lesson the required 2 lesson notice period will apply (see cessation of lessons above).
