As a teacher I strive to help my students create or realize their musical goals and aspirations, then craft a manageable and practical path forward while giving them the tools to achieve these goals. This can be a difficult yet rewarding process as each student has a unique relationship with music. Their goals have included everything from fluidly playing open chords to getting a chair in a national honour ensemble. The path forward can be challenging, so I make an effort to balance my students' confidence in their current musical abilities with the excitement - and sometimes frustration - that comes with learning something new.
During my studies, I was able to learn a lot about the technical aspects of the guitar and music theory, while my time spent playing in various jazz, rock and pop groups has given me lots of performance experience and practical knowledge about music. I am available to teach musicians of all skill levels on electric or acoustic guitar and can cover topics and genres such as jazz, pop, rock, blues, improvisation, reading, ear training, music theory and composition.
