Music has been part of entire life, and has taught me so many lessons. It gave me structure, discipline, a sense of achievement, and most importantly, a sense of self. I hope to share what I have learned with my students.
I feel that music should be taught with patience and care, tailoring each lesson to the individual to make it as enjoyable as possible.
I have attended the following schools, earning the following degrees:
-University of Victoria - Bachelors of Music (Piano Performance)
-Royal Conservatory of Music - ARCT diploma (Piano Performance)
I also spent time at Kwantlen Polytechnic University studying with Jane Hayes. I studied with Arthur Rowe at Uvic, and am currently in the Masters program at U of T studying Piano Performance and Pedagogue.
-Represented the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival as a National level rep at BC performing arts festival (2019)
-Received the Dr. Robin Wood and Winifred Scott Wood Memorial Award. (2019)
-Gold award at the Kiwanis Fraser Valley International Music
Festival for piano duet, open class (2010)
-Multiple awards and placed finishes at the Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festival. (2008-2011)
-Winner of the Gloria Cristobal Music Scholarship (2008)
I’ve been teaching piano, both privately and in local schools since 2011. During my busiest years I had a private studio of around 25 students, ranging from 4 years of age to adults in their 60’s, and from beginner piano to RCM 10. I also taught my students RCM theory. I understand the importance of scheduling, respecting other people’s time, and communicating. I treat my responsibilities with the utmost care, and will quickly respond to emails, texts, etc. outside of class and work hours. I’m a capable pianist, with experience performing and collaborating. In solo performance, perhaps the recent achievement I am most proud of is that in 2019, I was the National nominee from the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival, as well as the recipient of the Dr. Robin Wood and Winifred Scott Wood Memorial Award.
