As a former student for 20 years, I have keen insight into the struggles and needs of students. I am a firm supporter of creative teaching, which means I adapt my teaching method to suit the students needs. Some students are full of energy and have trouble with attention. These students need a faster paced lesson environment with a regular change of exercise types and the opportunity to explore their own creativity through composition or creative projects.
I am incredibly patient and positive with my students. I believe that every student can succeed with the right amount of patience, work, and support. I teach a lot of adults as well, and I find they sometimes need the most encouragement to believe the truth that they are never too old to learn and play well.
My teaching energy is always passionate and engaged. As both pianist and composer, my love for the beauty of music and how it heals the mind and spirit is the core message of what I teach. I hope to pass down my love of music to my students through my example.
My lessons are a balance of hard work, challenging exercises, as well as laughs and games. I also teach the science of how the brain works when you practise, which allows my students to train themselves to learn their music faster and better! I write most of my own exercises and pieces for all of my beginner students, allowing me to use my creative insights to cater towards their level, needs for improvement, and their musical interests. The results are definitely worth it!
I hold a Master’s Degree in Piano Performance from the University of Montréal where I studied with Jimmy Brière and attended seminars in Creative Teaching.
I completed my B.Mus. at the University of Ottawa under David Jalbert and Mattieu Gaudet. There I had the chance to sing with a number of professional choirs, coach singers, and tutor younger students in theory and conducting.
I have also been a longtime pupil of Acadian pianist and multidisciplinary artist, Dr. Carl Philippe Gionet as part of his summer collaborative piano workshops in Caraquet, NB. and Breno, Italy.
