We all have a reason why we want to play music. I encourage and support students to follow that curious spark and discover their musical voice. I guide students to achieve their musical goals whether it be learning a new instrument, a new song, developing as an improviser, learning to sight read, understand theory, or songwriting in a fun and interactive way.
I spent 4 years studying Jazz Saxophone at Capilano University. I have over 14 years of teaching experience working in ECE: Montessori schools, and independent schools learning all about child development, as well as adult & group lessons. I studied saxophone with Grammy nominated Juno award winning jazz saxophonist Campbell Ryga at Capilano University. My additional teachers are: Charlie Parker, Bach, Dave Liebman, Miles Davis, Bill Evans just to name a few of the masters. I started studying saxophone at the age of 13 and as my musical career developed I began learning and incorporating more instruments into my teaching repertoire.
Teacher of the year award @ Ava Music & Art Centre ltd. 2018
For years I have performed saxophone for bands, corporate functions, studio work, big bands, virtual functions, as well as disability foundations. I have also taught rock bands, musical theatre, Orff, kodaly, & Montessori pedagogy These skills have helped developed me into a strong music teacher, performer, and composer.
