Each of us has a unique reason for wanting to play music, and I wholeheartedly believe in nurturing that innate curiosity and helping students find their musical voice. As an educator, my role is to provide unwavering encouragement and support as they embark on their musical journey.
No matter the goal, whether it's learning a new instrument, mastering a favorite song, delving into the world of improvisation, honing sight-reading skills, understanding music theory, or exploring the art of songwriting, I am dedicated to guiding students every step of the way. I create a fun and interactive learning environment, where music becomes an enjoyable and fulfilling experience.
My passion for Jazz Saxophone led me to spend four enriching years studying at Capilano University. Under the mentorship of the acclaimed Grammy-nominated and Juno award-winning jazz saxophonist Campbell Ryga, I honed my skills and cultivated a deep appreciation for the art of jazz.
In addition to my musical journey, I possess extensive teaching experience, spanning over 14 years. I have had the privilege of working in diverse educational settings, including ECE (Early Childhood Education), Montessori schools, and independent schools. This exposure has provided me with valuable insights into child development, which I integrate into my teaching approach for both adults and group lessons.
My musical influences are as diverse as they are inspirational, ranging from the legendary Charlie Parker, Bach, Dave Liebman, Miles Davis, Bill Evans, and numerous other masters. As my musical career blossomed, I expanded my teaching repertoire to include a variety of instruments, further enriching the learning experience for my students.
The journey of learning the saxophone commenced at the age of 13, and since then, my musical odyssey has been an ever-evolving and rewarding experience.
Teacher of the year award @ Ava Music & Art Centre ltd. 2018
Over the years, my musical journey has taken me on a diverse and fulfilling path, where I have showcased my saxophone skills in various settings. From bands and corporate functions to studio work and big bands, I have delighted audiences with my saxophone performances. Embracing the modern era, I have also ventured into virtual functions, bringing music to audiences worldwide. My passion for making a positive impact led me to share my musical talents with disability foundations, bringing joy and music to those in need. As a teacher, I have not only taught saxophone but have also expanded my expertise to various music disciplines. I have guided rock bands, musical theatre groups, and embraced pedagogies like Orff, Kodaly, and Montessori. This vast array of skills has enriched my teaching abilities, allowing me to nurture young talents and provide a well-rounded music education. Additionally, my passion for music extends to the realm of composition, where I have been inspired to create my own musical pieces. As a composer, I have found an outlet for my artistic expression and contributed my unique voice to the world of music.
