Teaching Philosophy

I am the first musician and performance artist to emerge from my familial lineage, and I assure you that EVERYONE is capable of learning music on the violin!

I value meeting each violin student I work with where he or she is currently at in their musical/technical development - Rome was not built in one day, and I believe that true success at playing the violin is nurtured with an understanding that learning about music and technical aspects of playing the violin will be a rewarding, self-discovering journey of curiosity and learning.

To play the beautiful melodies and catchy rhythms from your favourite concert piece or song - in addition to producing an amazing tone from the violin itself - requires a very achievable skill-set of gaining the knowledge of basic physical elements of violin-playing, which include on-stage stance, posture, and an understanding of how to hold the violin and bow.
With these basic technical elements to violin-playing, I can assure you that almost anyone can become a terrific violinist and an overall amazing musician for audiences to enjoy!
Once we grasp the technical basics of violin-playing, the sky is the limit as to what kind of enthusiasm for fantastic music-making and performing can be achieved!

Musical Education

I have been performing the violin and learning the fantastic repertoire written for classical violin since the age of five years old.
Music and performing have always been a huge passion of mine, and continues to be to this day.

I completed my formal music conservatory education in performance at
The Glenn Gould School of The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Ontario.
I earned my Bachelors Degree in Music Performance (as a concert violinist), as well as completed one full year as a full-scholarship recipient in The Glenn Gould School’s Artist Diploma Program, a program which fosters the careers of up-and-coming young concert artists.
At The Glenn Gould School, I was honoured to study under the tutelage of renowned concert violinist and violin pedagogue, Victor Danchenko.

Awards and Distinctions

In July of 2021, CBC Music listed me and my work as a classical violin artist for their annual “Top 30 Under 30 Hot Musicians” published list, where I was grateful for the opportunity to share about my life as a working musician, as well as the creative background of my self-produced debut studio album entitled “Short Stories” in an article-style interview.
My album features seven virtuoso encore pieces for the violin with piano (Jeanie Chung was the amazing pianist on the album!) - music from the Romantic-era of classical music, to Jazz-Classical scores by George Gershwin, to Spanish-Classical pieces like Habanera and Por Una Cabeza. “Short Stories” is available to listen to and download on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, and Amazon Music.

In 2015, I was honoured to perform in Casalmaggiore, Italy at the Casalmaggiore International Music Festival. I was awarded the Gabora Prize for “Best Performance” for a series of public recitals I gave at the 3-week long music festival.

Special Skills and Training

During my formal music conservatory education at The Glenn Gould School of The Royal Conservatory of Music, I studied with one of the world’s most saught-after violin pedagogues, the late Victor Danchenko. Born in the former Soviet Union, he studied at the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory of Music. The musical lineage I come from studying under the tutelage of Victor Danchenko was simply incredible, and he inspires my teaching methods to this day. In addition to successfully working with The Royal Conservatory of Music’s curriculum in violin performance, I will also customize specific warm-up routines for each violin student I work with, tailored to the student’s current technical needs. In regards to bringing the music to life - from the notes written on the musical score straight to the listeners’ ears - I value incorporating mentally and emotionally healthy habits, which are student-specific, to help prepare my violin students for when it is time to present and perform the music they have been working on. At the end of the day, we are music artists and entertainers who have the privilege of capturing the attention of viewers and listeners with amazing melodies and rhythms. I believe that it is totally within reach to be a musical trifecta: an exceptional instrumentalist at the technical level, a violinist with classy musicality, as well as to become an engaging performer onstage for your audience to love.

There is a one-time registration fee of 25 $ charged with the first lessons. All Taxes are included in prices, if applicable

Policies


1. Cancellation Policy

Lessons not cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice are billable to the client and payable to the teacher. This does not of course apply to travel fees unless the notice is effectively given at the door and the teacher has travelled to the location.

2. Cessation (quitting) Policy

A client must provide a 2 lesson notice period to stop lessons. So a weekly student needs to give 2 weeks of notice, a biweekly student works out to 3 weeks notice and a twice weekly student works out to a week of notice.

3. Illness Policy

Lessons cancelled due to illness or extraordinary circumstances with less than 24 hours notice remain billable to the client and payable to the teacher.

BAH teachers are encouraged to offer a make-up lesson at a future date in the interest of client relations and general goodwill. This only makes sense as teaching a student with the flu for example, will ruin the rest of your week's employment.

No more than 2 lessons may be made up due to illness within a 60 day period.

4. Rescheduling Policy

Any lesson can be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice.

Summer Vacation and Extended Absence Policy

Clients may schedule longer absences for trips etc. 24 hours notice is required.

It is normal and typical for students and about 20% of our teachers to schedule a break in the summer. We do not enforce a notice period (see cessation of lessons) at the end of a long summer break.

5. Evaluation Period

There are no free trial lessons with Beethoven at Home but we do offer a 2 lesson evaluation period where it is easy to try out a teacher. There are no free lessons during the evaluation period and clients may choose to discontinue the lessons at any time by providing the required 24 hours notice. After the student's 3rd lesson the required 2 lesson notice period will apply (see cessation of lessons above).
