Music holds a significant place in education, personal growth, and happiness. As a music educator, my purpose is to assist learners of all ages in attaining their goals while fostering qualities like focus, dedication, self-confidence, and critical thinking within a positive and supportive learning atmosphere. Music's impact transcends fields of study, nurturing essential skills transferrable to various aspects of life. By incorporating warm-up routines in each lesson, I enhance my students' learning experience through activities that enhance breathing techniques, posture, finger dexterity, sight-reading, and more. I motivate my students through positive reinforcement, achievable objectives, and engaging repertoire tailored to their proficiency. Whatever your motivation to learn music, its benefits will enrich your life in ways beyond imagination.
I have completed the following certifications in music:
- McMaster University-Honours Bachelor Degree in Music
- McMaster University-Diploma of Music Performance in Clarinet
- Royal Conservatory of Music-Piano
- My principal clarinet performance teacher was Zoltan Kalman
- My principal theory, harmony and counterpoint professor was Dr. Matthew Woolhouse
- My principal musicianship skills and music history professor was Dr. Andrew Mitchell
- The School of Arts Scholarship in Music
- Louise E. Bettger Scholarship in Music
- H. B. Greening Book Prize in Music
- Joan Francis Bowling Scholarship in Music
I spent my childhood listening to music of all genres, and spending time familiarizing myself with a wide variety of instruments. After experience on many brass, string and woodwind instruments, I fell in love with the incredible tone and range of the clarinet, and decided to pursue clarinet performance in university. My time learning at McMaster was supplemented with education in music history, musical theory, counterpoint, harmony, dictation, ear training, as well as other musicianship skills to help me be a well-rounded, effective music teacher.
