Teaching Philosophy

Playing drums brings me so much joy, and I am thrilled to share that passion with anyone who is interested in exploring the world of rhythm. Over the years of teaching, I have discovered that there is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to learning music. Each student is unique, with their own learning style and preferences.

To create engaging and enjoyable lessons, my first step is to understand each student's learning channel. By identifying how they absorb information best, I can tailor my teaching methods accordingly. I also incorporate gamification techniques to add a sense of fun and excitement to the learning process. With this approach, I can confidently say that my classes are never boring or stressful.

Every lesson is custom-made to suit the individual needs and musical background of the student. I believe in building upon each student's existing knowledge and skills, which allows them to see progress and fosters a sense of accomplishment. Most importantly, I aim to create a positive and enjoyable learning environment where the foundation is set on the pure pleasure of making music. This enjoyment becomes the driving force to keep students motivated and engaged throughout their musical journey with me.

Musical Education

In my musical journey, I had the privilege of studying at renowned institutions in Germany, including the Drum Department for Teacher Training and Music Education. I also engaged in the Teacher Education Certification Program, where I refined my skills. The Modern Music School offered me invaluable insights into Motivation and Practicing Concepts, and I further enriched my knowledge by exploring Music Theory, Harmony, and Improvisation.

During the late 90's to the 2000's, I was fortunate to learn from distinguished European drummers and educators through private courses and master classes. Their mentorship greatly influenced my musical growth.

Special Skills and Training

My extensive experience as a drummer for the renowned pop band "Arian," touring the world and performing in sold-out arenas and concerts for over 15 years, has provided me with invaluable insights into playing and performing on stage and in the studio. I am passionate about sharing this wealth of knowledge and expertise with my students. In my classes, I go beyond simply teaching drumming techniques. I also emphasize the importance of performing and cultivating a team-oriented attitude towards bandmates. It's not just about playing your instrument; it's about contributing your musical part to the whole and being a supportive member of the band. I find immense joy in helping students bring out their best selves, whether they are kids exploring their musical talents or adults aspiring to pursue a career in music.

Policies

1. Cancellation Policy

Lessons not cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice are billable to the client and payable to the teacher. This does not of course apply to travel fees unless the notice is effectively given at the door and the teacher has travelled to the location.

2. Cessation (quitting) Policy

A client must provide a 2 lesson notice period to stop lessons. So a weekly student needs to give 2 weeks of notice, a biweekly student works out to 3 weeks notice and a twice weekly student works out to a week of notice.

3. Illness Policy

Lessons cancelled due to illness or extraordinary circumstances with less than 24 hours notice remain billable to the client and payable to the teacher.

BAH teachers are encouraged to offer a make-up lesson at a future date in the interest of client relations and general goodwill. This only makes sense as teaching a student with the flu for example, will ruin the rest of your week's employment.

No more than 2 lessons may be made up due to illness within a 60 day period.

4. Rescheduling Policy

Any lesson can be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice.

Summer Vacation and Extended Absence Policy

Clients may schedule longer absences for trips etc. 24 hours notice is required.

It is normal and typical for students and about 20% of our teachers to schedule a break in the summer. We do not enforce a notice period (see cessation of lessons) at the end of a long summer break.

5. Evaluation Period

There are no free trial lessons with Beethoven at Home but we do offer a 2 lesson evaluation period where it is easy to try out a teacher. There are no free lessons during the evaluation period and clients may choose to discontinue the lessons at any time by providing the required 24 hours notice. After the student's 3rd lesson the required 2 lesson notice period will apply (see cessation of lessons above).
