Music has been at the core of my life since I was six years old when I began my first piano lessons. Since then it has brought joy and enrichment to my life in both career aspects and recreational time.
I want to bring that same passion, that I have for music, to my students. I focus on the specific needs of each individual student in order to make instrumental learning fun and stress free. In this type of environment I believe students, both child and adult, are able to maximize skills development and achieve success!
I have both an honours BA in Music from York University, Toronto and a Graduate Diploma In Education from University of Wollongong, Australia. I studied classical piano, privately, from the ages of six through 18. At university I continued my piano studies in jazz in improvisation. I studied both saxophone and recorder at the elementary and high schools I attended. Throughout my career I have performed with ensembles ranging from classical and folk genres to jazz and rock.
I have more than 30 years of experience teaching in the private sector and close to 20 years of experience in the public education sector. This lengthy experience has allowed me to develop skills in multiple settings including one on one, small group and large classes. In teaching thousands of students over the years I have been exposed to many different learning styles and it has allowed me to develop effective instructional strategies that I have applied with success. It has also allowed me to attain skills and experience in multiple band and string instruments.
