here are the most important features of my approach as a music teacher
1 - FRAMEWORK - I like to establish a routine that is based on additive learning, which means that each exercice will prepare the student for the next one (ex. body warm up, posture, breathing, vocal warm up, vocalise, songs etc.) This is to create a space where the students can have a frame that is familiar and where they can improve each week.
2 - FLEXIBILITY - Even if my lessons have a basic framework in order to see improvement, it is important for me to adapt to the needs and preferences of the student. Each persons have different learning styles, so I have different exercice depending on what works better for each person. Also, each student may have different reasons for learning music ( technical improvement, self confidence, social activity etc. ) and I will make sure to keep the dialogue open regularly. I like to leave space for spontaneity and freedom.
3 - SUPPORT AND EXPLORATION- Especially for vocal students, I will always do the sound I ask them to do with them first, so they feel supported. It is also promoting the idea that there is no "wrong" or "stupid" sound the important is to try and explore the things we can ALL do with our voice.
Finally, my approach to music is very intuitive and focus on the embodied experience: How does it feel? What it make you think of? (images) How can your body help with your understanding of your instrument? I can teach all music styles
