Teaching Philosophy

Singing has been an incredible source of joy in my life, and my greatest passion is helping others grow not only in their vocal abilities but also in their confidence. My ultimate goal is to see my students reach their full potential in a fun and collaborative environment.

Understanding what you want to achieve in our sessions is essential to me, as it enables me to provide you with the best possible experience. Singing and performing not only bring joy but also offer a powerful outlet for creative expression, positively impacting our mood and overall well-being.

While I always ensure a strong foundation in the basics, I want you to explore a whole other aspect of singing – making a song your own and connecting deeply with your audience. My aim is to instill confidence in you, whether you perform for your loved ones or a larger audience.

Regardless of whether you're just starting your vocal journey or looking to refine your skills, I'm confident that I can be of great help. Together, let's discover and unlock your true potential as a singer! I promise you that it will be so much fun!

Musical Education

My musical journey began at a young age with piano lessons from 5 to 14, followed by tenor saxophone lessons from 12 to 17. However, it was at 18 that I discovered my true passion for singing.

Over the past 34 years, I've been deeply immersed in vocal performance, collaborating with various bands and embracing a wide range of music genres. Helping students find their unique sound brings me immense joy. I've had the privilege of coaching many in vocal basics, harmonies, and performance, and I take pride in guiding them to explore the full potential of their vocal abilities.

In addition to vocal coaching, I have experience teaching songwriting and vocal improvisation. My expertise extends to working closely with worship teams and bands. Playing the guitar has been a cherished part of my musical journey since the age of 19.

With a background in diverse musical experiences and a passion for nurturing individual talent, I strive to empower my students to express themselves through music and discover their true vocal identity.

Special Skills and Training

From a young age, I found joy in singing with my family, and music has been an integral part of my life ever since. Over the years, I've had the pleasure of participating in musicals, leading an Acapella group as the lead vocalist, and fronting various bands. I've even contributed background vocals to various music projects. The creative process has always fascinated me, leading me to write and perform my own original music. Coaching others is a true passion of mine, as I love witnessing individuals blossom and become the best version of themselves. Music has a remarkable ability to help people overcome insecurities and take risks. I started off feeling too shy to sing in public, but with dedication and hard work, I found the courage to perform in front of thousands of people. It's a journey I deeply cherish, and I'm eager to empower others on their musical path.

Policies

1. Cancellation Policy

Lessons not cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice are billable to the client and payable to the teacher. This does not of course apply to travel fees unless the notice is effectively given at the door and the teacher has travelled to the location.

2. Cessation (quitting) Policy

A client must provide a 2 lesson notice period to stop lessons. So a weekly student needs to give 2 weeks of notice, a biweekly student works out to 3 weeks notice and a twice weekly student works out to a week of notice.

3. Illness Policy

Lessons cancelled due to illness or extraordinary circumstances with less than 24 hours notice remain billable to the client and payable to the teacher.

BAH teachers are encouraged to offer a make-up lesson at a future date in the interest of client relations and general goodwill. This only makes sense as teaching a student with the flu for example, will ruin the rest of your week's employment.

No more than 2 lessons may be made up due to illness within a 60 day period.

4. Rescheduling Policy

Any lesson can be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice.

Summer Vacation and Extended Absence Policy

Clients may schedule longer absences for trips etc. 24 hours notice is required.

It is normal and typical for students and about 20% of our teachers to schedule a break in the summer. We do not enforce a notice period (see cessation of lessons) at the end of a long summer break.

5. Evaluation Period

There are no free trial lessons with Beethoven at Home but we do offer a 2 lesson evaluation period where it is easy to try out a teacher. There are no free lessons during the evaluation period and clients may choose to discontinue the lessons at any time by providing the required 24 hours notice. After the student's 3rd lesson the required 2 lesson notice period will apply (see cessation of lessons above).
