I believe it is crucial for teachers to adapt and adjust to the particular students they teach, as every student has a different set of skills, knowledge, and interest.
Through experience, teachers can become more and more intuitive about what their students do and do not understand, and about how to most effectively address the gaps, which I make an active effort to do.
Extensive knowledge on the subject is a prerequisite for excellent in teaching but it is not enough. It is very possible for extremely knowledgable teachers to present information in ways which are overwhelming, unclear, or unhelpful. A great teacher thinks carefully about the placement of each piece of information, and constructs lessons in such a way that minimizes confusion and presents
concepts as clearly as possible.
Learning works best when the student is keenly interested in the subject, which is why it so important that the teacher and student work to together to find the music that is inspiring to the student, and motivates them to develop their skills. For this reason, my teaching is highly flexible, and tailored carefully to each individual.
