I believe music deserves a special place in everyone's life. It is my mission as a teacher to inspire students, regardless of age, to experience life more fully through the process of understanding music and making music.
I attended Southern Adventist University and earned my Bachelor of Science in Music Theory and Literature. I started my piano journey at age of 13 and stepped into the classical world in high school, Fountainview Academy. Involved with Choir, learned the violin, and joined the high school orchestra. Took percussion lessons in college to join the Wind Symphony.
As a child, I learned to listen for harmonies in recordings, and replicate the result on the piano. Jianpu, a musical notation that was and still is popular in China, was all I had access to for a long time. I was able, quite naturally, to apply what I learned from listening to the Jianpu sheet music, and played them on the piano for people to sing in church. Soon later I was also able to find the best appropriate harmonies for melodies just by looking at the Jianpu, without listening to the original recordings. Searching for better harmonies to express myself has been one of my favorite hobbies. I discovered my passion for teaching music in college and later spent 2+ years teaching one on one music lessons at a music school in Thailand.
