Teaching Philosophy

My principle is inspiring students to follow their leads in expressing themselves through their music skills. People who decide to do it through music achieve one of their most profound awareness of their representation inside their world. The sensibility that music brings to a person allows connecting with people and their environment. I believe that this connection is so empathic that people are more likely to build a better tomorrow for their community.
The students have to develop skills such as organization, discipline, and mapping their bodies to make music, reflecting in all the facets of their lives. I love to participate in the students' learning process. This lovely instrument, the flute, permits us to connect better with ourselves. For each student, I learn more and more about myself.

Musical Education

I started music studies in Brazil when I was thirteen years old. Participating in important music festivals receiving lessons from fantastic musicians gave me some desire to explore the musical world. I’ve played in the community and symphony bands that gave a rich cultural foundation and experience.
While being part of this unique experience, I attended the Conservatório Dramático e Musical Dr. Carlos de Campos de Tatuí, the most famous music conservatory in Brazil dedicated to teaching young students to become professional artists. At the conservatory, I developed technical music skills and had the opportunity to enjoy several international festivals, including travel to Italy for a summer festival with a scholarship; Accademia Musicale Estiva di Villa Bernocchi.
I got my Bachelor of Music in Performance at Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP), a renowned public university in Brazil. While earning the bachelor's degree, I discovered a love for chamber music and was the principal flutist at Banda Municipal de Cosmópolis. After graduating, I applied for the Escola Municipal de Música de São Paulo (EMMSP), where I had the opportunity to play at the Symphonic Band of EMMSP. Also, at the municipal school, I had lessons with Jose Ananias (São Paulo Symphony - OSESP), who assisted me in applying for a master’s degree program in the U.S. I hold a Master’s degree in Music Performance at Portland State University in Portland, OR under the guidance of Dr. Sydney Carlson.

Special Skills and Training

In addition to academic progress, I’ve developed teaching, producing, and performing worldwide music skills. I participated in a project creating arrangements and playing mantras for the DeRose method in Campinas, São Paulo. As a production manager, I worked with the BREUSIL group, a Brazilian string orchestra, which performed with renowned performers of the musical scenario. Also, producing the 12 Notes to Healing, a musical project to connect law enforcement officers to their community. Currently, I’m working on getting the license to teach Body Mapping for Musicians and a "Diplôme d'études profissionnelles approfondie (DÉPA)" from the Univeristé de Montréal (UdeM).

Policies

1. Cancellation Policy

Lessons not cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice are billable to the client and payable to the teacher. This does not of course apply to travel fees unless the notice is effectively given at the door and the teacher has travelled to the location.

2. Cessation (quitting) Policy

A client must provide a 2 lesson notice period to stop lessons. So a weekly student needs to give 2 weeks of notice, a biweekly student works out to 3 weeks notice and a twice weekly student works out to a week of notice.

3. Illness Policy

Lessons cancelled due to illness or extraordinary circumstances with less than 24 hours notice remain billable to the client and payable to the teacher.

BAH teachers are encouraged to offer a make-up lesson at a future date in the interest of client relations and general goodwill. This only makes sense as teaching a student with the flu for example, will ruin the rest of your week's employment.

No more than 2 lessons may be made up due to illness within a 60 day period.

4. Rescheduling Policy

Any lesson can be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice.

Summer Vacation and Extended Absence Policy

Clients may schedule longer absences for trips etc. 24 hours notice is required.

It is normal and typical for students and about 20% of our teachers to schedule a break in the summer. We do not enforce a notice period (see cessation of lessons) at the end of a long summer break.

5. Evaluation Period

There are no free trial lessons with Beethoven at Home but we do offer a 2 lesson evaluation period where it is easy to try out a teacher. There are no free lessons during the evaluation period and clients may choose to discontinue the lessons at any time by providing the required 24 hours notice. After the student's 3rd lesson the required 2 lesson notice period will apply (see cessation of lessons above).
