My life has been consumed by music since I was a young child, and I believe that it has shaped me and helped me grow as a person. For me, learning music is about so much more than just the music. Of course, we still need to learn the fundamentals of music, but we can expand our knowledge beyond just these fundamentals. I believe that music helps us to understand everyday life, it helps us interpret our emotions, and it also helps us interact with people in our life. I strongly believe in a music education that teaches the fundamentals of music, the notes and rhythms, but also the emotional and personal aspects of music. I do not believe that music should cause stress and that is why my teaching style focuses on the ability and desires of my student. I want my students to enjoy music and that means listening to what they want, whether it's letting them pick their piece or moving on from a certain technique that they've just had enough of!
I studied violin and piano privately from the age of six until the age of twelve. I went on to study voice privately from the age of 12 until the age of 18. I studied viola privately from the age of 12 and went on to complete my Bachelors of Music in viola performance. Throughout my high school and university years I studied music theory and music history. All of my training has been within the classical realm but I am also comfortable with other genres of music.
Throughout highschool, I won awards in the local and provincial music festivals including first place in several provincial classes. I also won entrance and merit scholarships in university.
I have had private studies in many different instruments for 16 years. Along with that, I have played in orchestras, chamber groups, and performed solo. I also attended music festivals every summer during my time in high school and university. I also took RCM examinations in music theory and history. I have also been apart of music outside the classical, private realm such as musical theatre productions and choir.
