I am inspired by many of my fantastic, wonderful teachers I have had in the past and found they have one thing in common: they are all extremely dedicated, driven and most importantly, passionate with music.
In my opinion, the best way of teaching that can most benefit students is to inspire them from within to learn with passion. From my teaching experience, I find that passion is such an important ingredient - because music is passion in the form of sound.
It is the passion that drives them to learn, to practice (which is so important), and expand their horizon in music. I am passionate with my music and what I do, and with the experience and education that I have, I can provide a customized teaching style to best suit each student's individual learning style to maximize their learning experience.
I am most fortunate to have Dr. Sal Ferreras, now Dean of Arts in Vancouver Community College, and Vern Griffiths, Principal Percussionist of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra as my principal instructors in UBC. I also had the great opportunity to play in masterclasses held by world acclaimed soloists such as Nebojsa Jovan Zivkovic, Chen Zimbalista, Evenlyn Glennie, and principal percussionist from major symphony orchestras such as John Rudolph from the Toronto Symphony.
