Teaching Philosophy

Teaching has always been a love for me. My love of Music and performance is matched by my love of educating young performers and helping them reach their fullest potential! I believe that music is the best way to express emotion and bring happiness. I hope all of my student will learn in a painless way, students and parents are expecting musical growth with joy.

For younger kids, I will start with musical games to help them to develop their musical sense in a fun way, while adults will be trained in a more focused way. As a composer and arranger, I will always ask my students whats's their favourite song. I will arrange the best version of their favourite song, so that my students can learn to play.

Musical Education

I graduated in Berklee College of Music, obtained a Master degree in Scoring for Film, Television and Video Games in 2020, and Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Music at Hong Kong Baptist University in 2019. I studied piano with Lau Lively Stones, Grace, an active pianist performer in Hong Kong, obtained a distinction Trinity LTCL diploma in piano performance in 2018 (equivalent to ARCT). I studied composition under the guidance of Matthew Schreibeis, Christopher Coleman and Christopher Keyes during her study in Hong Kong Baptist University. I also studied film scoring under Lucio Godoy’s guidance, a renowned film composer in Spain during her study in Berklee.

Awards and Distinctions

"Honourable Mention: Score" in Festigious Los Angeles Film Festival June 2021

Special Skills and Training

As a pianist, I started learning piano from an early age of 5, started teaching since my first year of University, and has years of piano teaching experiences, and it was great teaching students of all ages from 5 to adults. My passion in piano and music composition is her motivation to educate young musicians and help them to explore their potential. As a composer, I collaborated with Vancouver Film School in 2022, and score a short film "En Dehors De Toi", together we won Best LGBTQ+ Short Film in Lady Filmmakers Festival 2022. I also worked as audio editor and sound designer in a Hong Kong TV Drama "Into the Wild” broadcasted by Viu TV.  I specialises not only in piano performance, but also composition and music production.

Policies

1. Cancellation Policy

Lessons not cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice are billable to the client and payable to the teacher. This does not of course apply to travel fees unless the notice is effectively given at the door and the teacher has travelled to the location.

2. Cessation (quitting) Policy

A client must provide a 2 lesson notice period to stop lessons. So a weekly student needs to give 2 weeks of notice, a biweekly student works out to 3 weeks notice and a twice weekly student works out to a week of notice.

3. Illness Policy

Lessons cancelled due to illness or extraordinary circumstances with less than 24 hours notice remain billable to the client and payable to the teacher.

BAH teachers are encouraged to offer a make-up lesson at a future date in the interest of client relations and general goodwill. This only makes sense as teaching a student with the flu for example, will ruin the rest of your week's employment.

No more than 2 lessons may be made up due to illness within a 60 day period.

4. Rescheduling Policy

Any lesson can be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice.

Summer Vacation and Extended Absence Policy

Clients may schedule longer absences for trips etc. 24 hours notice is required.

It is normal and typical for students and about 20% of our teachers to schedule a break in the summer. We do not enforce a notice period (see cessation of lessons) at the end of a long summer break.

5. Evaluation Period

There are no free trial lessons with Beethoven at Home but we do offer a 2 lesson evaluation period where it is easy to try out a teacher. There are no free lessons during the evaluation period and clients may choose to discontinue the lessons at any time by providing the required 24 hours notice. After the student's 3rd lesson the required 2 lesson notice period will apply (see cessation of lessons above).
