I believe that absolutely everyone can sing, some better than others, but then some spend more time practicing. Singing for me has been a fundamental in my life and has brought me much joy and even more growth, both professional and personal. Singing is a whole body sport, we musicians are small muscle athletes and as a result we need to learn how to take care of our bodies as well as our minds in order to learn and progress as musicians. My typical lessons begin with a warm-up both physically and vocally, we then move into some more technical exercises, and then apply what we have learned in the repertoire we have chosen.
The bottom line however, is to simply have fun and learn along the way. We sing because it is fun and I aim to have that as the ultimate goal of our lessons.
I have recently graduated with my MMus Literature and Performance from Western University where I studied Voice and have also recently moved to Toronto. I took piano lessons from a young age and started private voice lessons at age 11. I have studied vocal pedagogy, all the music history and theory one could ever want, German, French, Italian, and have taught sight singing to first and second year university music students. I have performed in various operas, highlights include the titular roles in both Puccini's Suor Angelic and Handel's Alcina. Even though I am classically trained, musical theatre has always been a passion of mine and it has been eye opening how much technique cross over there is between the two genres.
