It is essential that music be taught because the specific music of a culture provides us perspective of what it is like to be a part of that culture. In order for students to be high-functioning members of society, they must recognize and respect people from other cultures and within their own culture.
Joy and play are essential elements of successful learning at any age, and I make certain that students learn without a lot of undue stress and anxiety. Adult students can expect the same support and respect as the youngest child. Without joy, there is no music, and without music, there is no joy.
