Music is one of my true loves, besides my wife and children of course. I believe it is one of the most universally loved of all phenomena, and I have a natural aptitude to communicate its wonders to students of all ages. I believe the self is the most important part of any instrument, and teach my students to use themselves as naturally and efficiently as possible to craft their musical ideas. I tailor practice and performance techniques to the individual and believe that if it sounds good, it's a good technique! If you want to learn to pick up and hold drumsticks, or want to prepare for an upcoming graduate school audition, I can be of service and am happy to help!
I have taken formal music lessons since the age of ten.
I earned a Bachelor of Music from the University of South Alabama, with a focus in percussion performance.
My Master of Music degree came from Appalachian State University, also with a concentration in percussion performance.
My spectrum of performance encompasses Baroque timpani all the way to Progressive Metal on the drum set, and all areas in between. I'm a veteran of Drum Corps International Division I Corp "Spirit of Atlanta," and have performed with Highland Pipe and Drum ensembles in Ontario and Quebec.
Winner of the Concerto/Aria competition at Hayes School of Music, at Appalachian State University in 2006. Performed "Glory and Grandeur," by Russell Peck; a percussion trio with orchestra accompaniment. Responsible for 63 different percussion parts in my score alone!
