As a spiritual and holistic vocal singing instructor, my teaching philosophy focuses on nurturing the connection between mind, body, and spirit. I recognize that singing is not merely a physical act but also an expressive and transformative experience. My teaching philosophy emphasizes the following key principles:
1) Mind-Body Awareness: I encourage students to cultivate a deep awareness of their bodies and minds while singing. I emphasize the integration of breath control, posture, and vocal technique, ensuring that students sing from a place of physical and mental alignment.
2) Emotional Expression: Recognizing that singing is a powerful means of emotional expression, I encourage students to tap into their authentic emotions and channel them through their voices. I guide students in exploring the connection between their emotional state and the quality of their vocal performance.
3) Spiritual Connection: I acknowledge the spiritual dimension of singing and helps students explore their spiritual connection through their voices. They may incorporate practices such as meditation, visualization, or affirmations to deepen students' spiritual awareness and create a sacred space for vocal exploration.
4) Holistic Approach: I consider the whole person, recognizing that vocal technique is interconnected with overall well-being. They may offer guidance on healthy lifestyle habits, including proper nutrition, hydration, and vocal health practices, to support students' overall vocal and physical well-being.
5) Individualized Instruction: I tailor my teaching approach to meet each student's unique needs, strengths, and goals. I provide personalized feedback, guidance, and exercises to support students' vocal development and spiritual growth.
6) Creating a Safe and Supportive Environment: I foster a safe and supportive learning environment where students feel encouraged to take risks, explore their voice, and express themselves authentically. I prioritize creating a space that is free from judgment and comparison.
Overall, my philosophy centers around the belief that singing is not just a technical skill but a holistic journey of self-discovery, expression, and connection to something greater.
I started songwriting and singing live at the age of 13. By the age of 15 I was singing professionally. I released four studio albums between the ages of 17 to 30 and toured North America, Europe and Japan. I was lucky enough to study under many prominent vocal coaches throughout my career. I was an official showcase artist at the CCMA’s in 2003 and a nominee in 2009. I am also a certified neurolinguistic practitioner, shamanic apprentice, and spiritual healer / practitioner. It is my pleasure to be able to blend all of my skills and techniques into a unique teaching style.
