I believe that my role as a teacher is to provide my students with the tools, guidance, and inspiration they need to realize their musical goals.
My teaching approach is rooted in the understanding that learning the piano is an ongoing process that involves both cognitive and physical skills. Therefore, I aim to create a learning environment that fosters creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking, while also encouraging good practice habits and proper technique. Practice makes habits!
I believe that the foundation of any successful piano education is built on a solid understanding of music theory and reading music notation. Therefore, I focus on helping my students develop a strong grasp of these fundamental skills, so they can confidently approach any piece of music they encounter.
I believe that effective communication is a critical component of successful teaching. Therefore, I use supportive dialogue with my students, where they feel comfortable asking questions, expressing their concerns, and sharing their musical ideas with me.
Finally, I believe that each student is unique, with their own set of strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles. Therefore, I tailor my teaching approach to each individual student, to ensure that they are getting the most out of their piano education.
I recently completed my Bachelor of Music degree, where I was honored to receive the Grace Swannell Memorial Scholarship in Piano. Throughout my studies, I had the privilege of working under the guidance of Professor Bruce Vogt, who is the esteemed head of the piano department at the University of Victoria.
In addition to my academic achievements, I have also earned the ARCT diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music (Canada) and the LRSM diploma from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (United Kingdom).
