Teaching Philosophy

Becoming a piano teacher is not just a job, it's a career that requires a lifelong commitment to learning and growth. As Socrates once said, education should not be seen as simply filling a vessel with information, but rather as the kindling of a flame that sparks a person's passion for knowledge and personal development.

Musical Education

As a music educator, I hold a qualification certificate in music education, a China Music Grade Certificate, and a Senior Teacher Certificate. Teaching has been my passion since I was 18 years old, and I have remained dedicated to this profession for the past 24 years.

Awards and Distinctions

In May 1998, I won first prize in the Piano Competition of Henan Art School. That same year, I also won third prize in the Xinzheng TV Piano Competition, second prize in the Henan Provincial Art School Dance Competition, and third prize in the Zhengzhou Professional Dance Competition. In December 1999, I was awarded second prize in the Puyang Haitian Cup Vocal Music Competition, and in July 1997, I won third prize in the Puyang Real Estate Cup Vocal Music Competition. Additionally, I won third prize in the Hong Kong Return Speech Contest in Henan Province in November 1997, and first prize in the Xinzheng Speech Contest of Zhengzhou in December 1997.

In February 2002, I was honored to receive the National Top Ten Award in the National TV Star of Hope Piano Competition in China. These achievements were recorded in the 2003 yearbook of Puyang City, Henan Province.

More recently, I earned ABRSM Music Theory Grade 8 in 2013 and ABRSM Performance Grade 8 in 2014. In August 2017, I was awarded the "Excellent Teacher Guidance Award" in the piano performance of the Music International Art Festival held by China and Mongolia Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture along the Belt and Road. In October 2018, I was invited to serve as a music consultant for Beijing cultural and artistic activities.

The following year, I was invited to be a judge for Singapore and Malaysia in June 2019, and received the Global Young Performers: Outstanding Teacher Guidance Award and the Certificate of completion of PTC Multi-sensory Teaching Training in August 2019. I was also awarded the Global Young Performer: Professional Teacher Guidance Award and the Cultural Exchange of Malaysia's Centennial Universities: Excellent Organization Award in August 2019. In September 2019, I became a Professional Member of the EPTA European Teachers Association with membership number P86110092, and in October 2019, I was certified as a teacher by ABRSM in China.

Lastly, I completed ABRAM 2023-2024 teaching material teacher training in November 2022 and became a member of BCRMTA with membership number 3782 in March 2023.

Special Skills and Training

As someone who grew up in a musical family and was immersed in a music education system that valued both words and actions, I have developed a deep passion for teaching and education. I am constantly exploring new ideas and teaching methods to provide my students with the best possible learning experience. If you're looking for a piano teacher who is dedicated to helping you grow as a musician and to find joy in music, then I would love to work with you!

Policies

1. Cancellation Policy

Lessons not cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice are billable to the client and payable to the teacher. This does not of course apply to travel fees unless the notice is effectively given at the door and the teacher has travelled to the location.

2. Cessation (quitting) Policy

A client must provide a 2 lesson notice period to stop lessons. So a weekly student needs to give 2 weeks of notice, a biweekly student works out to 3 weeks notice and a twice weekly student works out to a week of notice.

3. Illness Policy

Lessons cancelled due to illness or extraordinary circumstances with less than 24 hours notice remain billable to the client and payable to the teacher.

BAH teachers are encouraged to offer a make-up lesson at a future date in the interest of client relations and general goodwill. This only makes sense as teaching a student with the flu for example, will ruin the rest of your week's employment.

No more than 2 lessons may be made up due to illness within a 60 day period.

4. Rescheduling Policy

Any lesson can be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice.

Summer Vacation and Extended Absence Policy

Clients may schedule longer absences for trips etc. 24 hours notice is required.

It is normal and typical for students and about 20% of our teachers to schedule a break in the summer. We do not enforce a notice period (see cessation of lessons) at the end of a long summer break.

5. Evaluation Period

There are no free trial lessons with Beethoven at Home but we do offer a 2 lesson evaluation period where it is easy to try out a teacher. There are no free lessons during the evaluation period and clients may choose to discontinue the lessons at any time by providing the required 24 hours notice. After the student's 3rd lesson the required 2 lesson notice period will apply (see cessation of lessons above).
