I gravitated to the teaching profession because of my love of music, joy of inspiring and sharing my passion and knowledge of music with future generations. I am a music educator that strives to ensure that all students under my instruction are engaged in their studies by adapting alternative and creative teaching methods. I approach teaching with a constructivist view of learning. My lessons are geared towards the constructivist learning theory, where students are encouraged to create new understanding for themselves while assimilating their own understanding. My classes are always student-centered and give students the opportunity to express themselves freely. At the same time, I am aware that students learn at different paces, possess different abilities and construct different meanings to content. I am also aware that each learner is an individual and will adapt my teaching style to cater to the best interest of the learners.
I have attended the following schools earning the following degrees:
- University of Toronto – Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education 2021 to present.
- University of the West Indies, Mona – Master of Education: Leadership in Early Childhood Development.
- Universtity Mozarteum Salzburg, Carl Orff Institute – Postgraduate University Course: Advance Studies in Music and Dance Education.
- Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts – Bachelor of Music Education (Hons)
My BME in Music Education equipped me with both training in performance classes in flute and general classroom teaching. I have studied with flute tutors who have had international artistic and scientific training in the flute, music education, medicine and educational science in Bonn, Cologne, Berlin, Paris and Salzburg and classical instruction at the Royal School of Music in London. I have training in various genres of music and have experience teaching all ages with high pass rate in international flute exams. I have a passion for helping children and adults realize their true musical potential. I aim to make my class engaging, fun and student centered while learning new material and reaching higher heights.
