I teach singers of all levels to find joy and confidence in the expression of voice. Regardless of genre, my students learn to bring their best voices and best selves to any performance.
I began my musical education at St Michael Choir School in Toronto, where I garnered numerous student level awards across the full 11 year program (grades 3-12(OAC)). During this time I achieved -through private examination- registered RCM equivalencies in: Rudiments 2, Harmony 3, Counterpoint 4, History 4, Piano 8, Guitar 3, Voice 9. My musical instructors included emeritus professor of the Liturgical Music department of The Vatican, T. Barret Armstrong, premier Canadian classical guitar composer and performer Paul DuSatko, and celebrated Toronto conductor and clinician Jerzy Chickoki. I also took individual voice lessons with Canadian Opera Company alumni John Arab (Tenor) and Kathy Arab (Alto/Mezzo).
I continued performance education through masterclasses and clinics with the RCM, York University, and The University of Toronto, during which time I was also a professional vocalist with The Nathaniel Dett Choral, The Mendelssohn Singers, Elora Festival Singers, The Eisler Singers and Tafelmusik.
Having sung numerous engagements with CBC, Bravo Television, The Governments of Ontario and of Canada, The City of Toronto, and numerous prestigious intitutions in the United States including the Inaugural Commitee of Washington DC, The Smithsonian Institution, and The Library of Congress, I bring a wealth of performance and teaching experience to any student wishing to make a career with their voice.
Though the bulk of my formalized education was classical, I have since become an accomplished multigenre musician, proficient in: musical theatre, afrocentric spirituals, world music of central Africa and Latin America, modern rock, rock & roll/R&B, progressive, heavy metal/alternative, a capella, and sung vocal impressionism. I have also served as musical director for two theatre productions, and conductor for chamber choruses and a capella groups.
