I treat music like a lifestyle, integrating lessons I learn through musical experiences into my daily life. Good habits such as learning proper posture and focusing on breathing can be implemented into tackling daily challenges. I believe anyone who desires to learn music will also learn valuable life lessons along with it and will also achieve the joy that comes with being able to express themselves through playing music. I also encourage my students to enjoy what they're playing, to take risks, and to ask questions!
I have attended the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra School of Music jazz band during high school. I have also received large ensemble training through a big band program run by the TD Vancouver Jazz Festival in 2018. I now currently attend McGill University studying for a Bachelor's degree in Jazz Performance for the drumset. We are taught basic jazz harmony, theory, composition and arranging skills through the McGill Jazz Performance program. I have studied privately with drummers and musicians such as Joe Poole, Jim Doxas, John Lee, Julian Jayme, and Darrell Green. Outside of school, I have also gained training through playing gigs and shows with notable musicians of every age such as Kevin Dean and Benjamin Sigerson.
