Music as always been a huge part of my life. My father was a musician and performer all his life, and my Grandparents who raised me have always been musical as well, with both of them playing instruments and singing, playing in a country band as well as just jamming with friends.
It was never just something in the background, it's always been part of our lifestyle. It was a way to express ourselves, connect with our community. I've always believed that music was something that everyone should have some kind of connection with.
My goal as a teacher has always been to open up that connection with music in a way that is fun and exciting. I think learning should be something a student enjoys doing, and always strive to keep my lessons low stress and focused on what the student wants to learn, making it as good an experience as I can.
I have been playing the violin for around 16 years, starting at age 10, and have taken lessons from a variety of teachers throughout Calgary. I have been trained in a balance of both classical and fiddle styles and have experience in several fiddle styles from Celtic to Bluegrass and more.
I also spent 4 years studying at the University of Lethbridge under a violin studio professor and several other skilled musicians.
I was a part of several fiddle groups through my childhood that played all around Calgary, as well as touring throughout Canada and internationally during my time with The Calgary Fiddlers. I have also been a part of several country bands throughout my adulthood, as well as doing some solo performing.
