Teaching Philosophy

I am a passionate educator who finds great joy in teaching music to children of all ages. Whether it's introducing preschoolers to the basics or delving into advanced theory and practice with older students, every moment is an exciting adventure.
My teaching approach involves encouraging students to tap into their own creativity while grasping complex concepts. I firmly believe that all children possess
artistic abilities, and music classes provide a platform for incredible collaborations and creations. Additionally, these classes foster teamwork and inclusivity, values that I consider highly significant.
With eager anticipation, I am excitedly looking forward to another incredible year filled with happiness and music.

Musical Education

I have a theatre degree from the University of Waterloo. Most of my theatre experience was musical theatre where I learned to sing classical and modern pop/ theatre styles.
I went on to sing in Various corporate bands where I was lead singing in various styles. Mainly Pop, Rock, Jazz and Rhythm and Blues. Working with these groups resulted in touring much of Canada and the USA with Craig Ruhnke who was considered Canada's beach boy.
I moved to Chile in 2012 and began learning different styles of music. I went on to sing with Cumbia and Salsa bands. I also collaborated with a number of Chilean artists. During this time, I started writing and composing my first album. I am now working on my 6th album release. I have played my original music in a number of venues and festivals including Canadian music week.
Because of my singing experience, I was hired with an International music academy in Chile as a vocal coach. After one year of working as a vocal coach, I started teaching preschool music classes at an international private school. As the school grew larger, I started to teach primary grades. I also designed extra curricular programs and writing camps for children up to grade 8. After 5 years at the school, I became the head of the music department.

Special Skills and Training

I have spent many years singing on stages and I like to help my vocal students work on their performance skills as well as vocal skills. I also have a sound healing certification, specializing in voice. I use many techniques from my studies to help my students with breath work and connecting their emotions to their practical singing skills.

Policies

1. Cancellation Policy

Lessons not cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice are billable to the client and payable to the teacher. This does not of course apply to travel fees unless the notice is effectively given at the door and the teacher has travelled to the location.

2. Cessation (quitting) Policy

A client must provide a 2 lesson notice period to stop lessons. So a weekly student needs to give 2 weeks of notice, a biweekly student works out to 3 weeks notice and a twice weekly student works out to a week of notice.

3. Illness Policy

Lessons cancelled due to illness or extraordinary circumstances with less than 24 hours notice remain billable to the client and payable to the teacher.

BAH teachers are encouraged to offer a make-up lesson at a future date in the interest of client relations and general goodwill. This only makes sense as teaching a student with the flu for example, will ruin the rest of your week's employment.

No more than 2 lessons may be made up due to illness within a 60 day period.

4. Rescheduling Policy

Any lesson can be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice.

Summer Vacation and Extended Absence Policy

Clients may schedule longer absences for trips etc. 24 hours notice is required.

It is normal and typical for students and about 20% of our teachers to schedule a break in the summer. We do not enforce a notice period (see cessation of lessons) at the end of a long summer break.

5. Evaluation Period

There are no free trial lessons with Beethoven at Home but we do offer a 2 lesson evaluation period where it is easy to try out a teacher. There are no free lessons during the evaluation period and clients may choose to discontinue the lessons at any time by providing the required 24 hours notice. After the student's 3rd lesson the required 2 lesson notice period will apply (see cessation of lessons above).
