Do you remember hearing a song for the first time and feeling tears of emotion rising to your eyes? Or do you recall that tune on the radio that amazingly worded exactly how you felt at the time?
From opera to rock, music is a language we all understand, and better yet – it is a language we have the chance to speak every single day. Yes, it is as simple as using our built-in biological instrument, the voice. We are all born with a voice, and it is our choice to develop its potential range, dynamics, and story-telling abilities. It’s only a matter of instruction and guidance, which is why I am here.
I teach my students how to develop free open vocal production; how to sing healthily in a coordinated fashion that allows them to express themselves through proper, sustainable, science-based vocal technique. Students will be guided through all the nooks and crannies of vocal production, and are highly encouraged to ask all the questions that come to mind – It is my pleasure to demystify and explain, so that singing can flow as a fun and invigorating experience!
I create a custom program tailored to each student’s specific and individual needs, and provide a vocal repertoire depending on the student’s interests. All of my lessons begin with vocal warms-ups, and from there we delve into the unique configuration of each student’s instrument. Every student can expect to be treated with the same respect and support.
My job is to create a space where students can explore their voice and develop it in a healthy, coordinated way, so that they, too, can speak the language of music, share their stories and express their authenticity to the world.
I have studied vocal technique from the age of 15 with Laura Anglade and Irene Feher. I have studied classical piano with Rosalie Larouche from the age of 5 to 18, and am currently pursuing my Bachelor of Music in Voice at Concordia University within a specialization in Jazz Studies. In my time there I have studied aural perception with Simon Sloutsker and advanced harmony with Robin Chemtov. I performed as lead singer at the Oscar Peterson Concert Hall with Charles Ellison's and Joshua Rager's jazz improvisation ensembles and orchestrated a big band ensemble concert in Robin Chemtov's arranging class. My private voice instructors while at Concordia were Kim Richardson and Sienna Dahlen.
