I strongly believe that all people are inherently musical! The instruments we choose to practice and use to express ourselves are extensions of who we are as musicians and artists.
I aim to establish a positive, safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment when I teach. My training as a music therapist and musician inform my approach to teaching music. I approach teaching with a trauma-informed and person-centered lens to ensure that students feel empowered, motivated, and encouraged in their lessons.
I will teach students the fundamentals of their instruments and encourage them to find music that they enjoy to work on in lessons. If they are unsure of what they'd like to work on, I have many options and books on my shelf to offer!
I attended the following schools earning the following degrees:
- University of Toronto - Master of Music in Clarinet Performance
- Wilfrid Laurier University - Master of Music Therapy (to be conferred in October 2023)
- University of Alberta - Bachelor of Music in Clarinet Performance
Throughout my studies, I have played with University orchestras and wind ensembles, several chamber music groups, as well as various community and professional groups in Edmonton and Toronto.
University of Toronto Fellowship (2019-2021)
National Music Festival: Second Place (Woodwinds) (2018)
Edmonton Youth Orchestra: Diana Bacon Scholarship (2018)
Edmonton Kiwanis Music Festival: Kevin P. Smith Memorial Scholarship (2018); Kenneth Myers Memorial Scholarship (2018)
I attended the National Youth Band of Canada from 2016-2018. This summer music experience was invaluable to my learning as a team member in a large ensemble! I also attended various summer music festivals, including Domaine Forget de Charlevoix and Orford Music Academy to continue to work on my skills as a clarinetist, performer, and teacher.
