Music has been the cornerstone of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up in an incredibly musical family where both parents were music educators in some capacity. Currently, I am studying to be a music teacher myself at the University of Alberta so my teaching philosophy is very much under development. However, I want to be the kind of teacher who teaches in such a way that inspires students to find the same love for music that I have. Theoretical skill building exercises paired with lots of practical music making helps me to accomplish this in my lessons.
I hold a bachelors degree in music from the University of Alberta. During this degree, I focused on Tuba and Voice. I studied tuba with Scott Whetham, principal tuba player with The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, and renowned Edmonton brass players such as Doug Berner and Dawn Hage. I also studied voice as well as singing in my university's chamber choir where I had the opportunities to tour the province of Alberta and the island of Cuba.
I spent my younger years watching my parents act as teachers to others so I feel like I have a different level of knowledge to impart to students. In the last number of years, I have started honing my skills as a composer and arrangers primarily for low brass ensembles and my music is regularly performed by my Edmonton based tuba quartet Tuphonics.
