My teaching approach centers around student engagement and their musical interests. I encourage my students to guide their learning by expressing what they want to achieve. This approach is more rewarding as students realize they can play their favorite songs. I believe in integrating music theory lessons into their favorite music, making it relevant to their lives. For instance, I draw connections like how Led Zeppelin songs often use blues progressions or how bands like Radiohead and Coldplay are influenced by classical composers. By showing students how music theory relates to the music they love, I aim to ignite their enthusiasm for learning the language of music.
