The learning of a musical instrument can, and should, lead to so much more than simply the ability to play the instrument. It can be a way to form bonds with other people and make new friends. It can help to increase your self-confidence, and discover more about who you are and what you are capable of. It can provide the chance to switch off from your other responsibilities, whether that is school, work, family, and take some time to do something simply because you enjoy it. Whatever one's motivations for learning an instrument, it can only serve to broaden our horizons, and anyone considering starting would do best to dive in heads first and see where it leads you. Before beginning my instrumental journey I was not necessarily expecting it to be the primary focus of my life all these years later, and yet now I cannot imagine having not taken this step.
In my teaching I strive to provide engaging and fun lessons, which are catered to the needs and wishes of the student. If someone made it clear that they have no interest in playing Classical music, to me that sounds like an opportunity to explore a whole world of music outside of the Classical sphere. I welcome learners of all ages and backgrounds. Now, at the age of 22, and with my degree years not too far behind me, I feel I can be a figure that younger learners can both look up to and relate to. Adult learners should also feel at ease, and expect to be treated with the same support as anyone else.
I have a BA Music with honours from the University of Leeds, UK. From the time I started learning the piano and trumpet around the age of ten, I have gone on to passionately study music. I am well-versed in Classical trumpet, having completed many performance exams. This includes passing Grade 8 with distinction. I have played in many different ensembles from brass bands to big bands. I held the lead trumpet position in the University of Leeds Big Band.
