Music has been the biggest part of my life since before I can remember. Music has always been a place for me to express the emotions I don't have words for. I love how music can be a space for even the most shy people to fully express themselves. I believe that music is one of the most beautiful aspects of human society, and that every person is capable of creating that beauty no matter their age or skill level. I am currently a music education student at UBC and this is the reason I want to be a music teacher; I want to use the skills I have developed to give this gift of music to others.
I started by studying piano privately from the age of eight until the age of eighteen. I also studied voice privately throughout middle school and high school. Besides classical, I also played trumpet in my high school's jazz band and concert band, played piano for choir, sang in vocal jazz, and sang in rock band.
For violin, I started playing when I was 12. However I advanced very quickly due to the help and guidance of my violin teacher. I was able to advance to the point where I am currently studying the violin at UBC School of Music with Professor David Gillham.
Norah Mansell Music Scholarship
I have achieved RCM 8 in piano, RCM 8 in theory, and have also worked through the Suzuki violin books. I am currently studying Music History, Music Theory, World Music, and Aural Skills at UBC School of Music. Additionally, from September to December I have been working as a Teacher's Assistant for James Colpitts at Jamieson Elementary. I have been helping with their strings program and teaching students both individually and in a group setting.
