Teaching Philosophy

I believe in fostering a supportive and inspiring learning environment where each student is encouraged to explore their musical potential to the fullest. My teaching philosophy revolves around three key principles: individualized instruction, active engagement, and holistic growth.

Firstly, I recognize that each student has unique strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles. Therefore, I tailor my instruction to meet the individual needs and goals of each student. Whether a student is a beginner or advanced, I strive to create personalized lesson plans that challenge them appropriately and help them progress at their own pace.

Secondly, I believe that active engagement is essential for effective learning. I incorporate a variety of interactive teaching methods, including hands-on practice, improvisation, and performance opportunities. By actively participating in the learning process, students develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for music.

Finally, I view music education as more than just mastering technical skills. It is also about fostering creativity, self-expression, and personal growth. Therefore, I aim to nurture not only musical abilities but also confidence, discipline, resilience, and a lifelong love of music.

Overall, my teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that every student has the potential to succeed and find joy in music. By providing individualized instruction, promoting active engagement, and nurturing holistic growth, I strive to empower my students to become skilled musicians and passionate lifelong learners.

Musical Education

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Contemporary Music with an emphasis in performance from Universidad de Las Americas in Ecuador. My coursework included performance classes, Jazz studies, music history, Ear training, composition, and music arrangements. I have been studying music for fourteen years up to the present at St. Lawrence College in ON. My primary instrument is the electric guitar, although I studied piano from the ages of eight to twelve and contemporary vocal technique from eighteen to twenty-two.

My bachelor's program was taught by contemporary musicians who had studied at Berklee School of Music in Boston, US and Valencia, Spain. Under their guidance, I was trained to the highest standards of the music industry, with a focus on contemporary genres such as Blues, Rock, R&B, Gospel, Jazz, and Latin music. Throughout my studies, I concentrated on composition, film scoring, ear training, music production, and music harmony.

Special Skills and Training

Performer: I have been an active music performer for fourteen years, beginning my career at the age of sixteen with my first major performance in front of fifteen thousand people. Upon turning eighteen, I made music performance my primary focus, leading me to perform in various settings including small venues, weddings, jazz ensembles, big bands, Latin music orchestras, and more. These experiences led to me to tour abroad with the renowned Latin American singer, Leo Dan, solidifying my expertise and exposure in the music industry. Music Teacher: I have been teaching music to kids and adults for six years. One of my best experiences was guiding a student from scratch, assisting him until he gained admission to university and supporting him throughout his studies. Subsequently, he transitioned into a role as a music teacher at the same academy where we first crossed paths. We eventually began collaborating, and today, he has evolved into a highly successful musician in Ecuador. Music Event Producer: At the age of twenty-three, I initiated my own entrepreneurial venture in my native country. Specializing in event coordination, my focus encompassed organizing diverse occasions, including weddings, corporate functions, and product showcases. This endeavor was driven by a commitment to delivering high-quality experiences, characterized by meticulous planning and attention to detail.

Policies

1. Cancellation Policy

Lessons not cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice are billable to the client and payable to the teacher. This does not of course apply to travel fees unless the notice is effectively given at the door and the teacher has travelled to the location.

2. Cessation (quitting) Policy

A client must provide a 2 lesson notice period to stop lessons. So a weekly student needs to give 2 weeks of notice, a biweekly student works out to 3 weeks notice and a twice weekly student works out to a week of notice.

3. Illness Policy

Lessons cancelled due to illness or extraordinary circumstances with less than 24 hours notice remain billable to the client and payable to the teacher.

BAH teachers are encouraged to offer a make-up lesson at a future date in the interest of client relations and general goodwill. This only makes sense as teaching a student with the flu for example, will ruin the rest of your week's employment.

No more than 2 lessons may be made up due to illness within a 60 day period.

4. Rescheduling Policy

Any lesson can be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice.

Summer Vacation and Extended Absence Policy

Clients may schedule longer absences for trips etc. 24 hours notice is required.

It is normal and typical for students and about 20% of our teachers to schedule a break in the summer. We do not enforce a notice period (see cessation of lessons) at the end of a long summer break.

5. Evaluation Period

There are no free trial lessons with Beethoven at Home but we do offer a 2 lesson evaluation period where it is easy to try out a teacher. There are no free lessons during the evaluation period and clients may choose to discontinue the lessons at any time by providing the required 24 hours notice. After the student's 3rd lesson the required 2 lesson notice period will apply (see cessation of lessons above).
