Teaching Philosophy

Music resonates deeply within me since always, forming an integral part of my essence. I firmly believe in its universal importance in education, recognizing rhythm and sound as innate components of our existence, from the pulsing beat of our hearts to the melodies of our breath. Formal music training serves to enhance and refine these inherent qualities, much like how an athlete meticulously trains their body for peak performance.

In my teaching approach, I emphasize physical warm-ups to optimize the unique muscle groups required for instrument mastery. I prioritize joy and playfulness as crucial elements for effective learning, and l find it vital and really important in my philosophy to make the student listen songs as part of the studies since getting to know your music identity and genre is truly imporant.

Every student, regardless of age, receives equal support and respect.

Musical Education

I hold a BA in music with a minor in music production from "Universidad de las Americas" in Quito, Ecuador. My journey in music began at the age of 13, when I started playing the guitar, a passion that continues to this day. Initially self-taught, I honed my skills until I had the opportunity to pursue formal education at the university.

During my time at university, I delved into various facets of music, specializing in guitar across a wide range of genres including blues, R&B, funk, jazz, rock, and Latin music. Additionally, I expanded my musical horizons by learning to play the bass and piano, and delving into music production.

Outside of academics, I actively participated in extracurricular activities, being a member of three clubs: marimba (focused on music from the Pacific region), funk junior, and funk senior (dedicated to guitar and bass).

One of the most enriching aspects of my education was the diverse and multicultural environment. My teachers, who came from different parts of the world, brought unique perspectives and backgrounds, enhancing the depth and breadth of my musical education.

Moreover, prior to commencing my degree, I dedicated two years to the study of classical guitar in Argentina.

Special Skills and Training

Since I was little my dad showed me music classic from the 60's to the 80's and since then, even without knowing the lyrics or the intention, I could feel and express the sentiment that music gave me. My skills are diverse ranging from music theory to music production, I have knowledge in composition, foleys, audio editing, recording, among many others. My wide experience and open mind to music gives me an important edge as a teacher, musician and producer.

Policies

1. Cancellation Policy

Lessons not cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice are billable to the client and payable to the teacher. This does not of course apply to travel fees unless the notice is effectively given at the door and the teacher has travelled to the location.

2. Cessation (quitting) Policy

A client must provide a 2 lesson notice period to stop lessons. So a weekly student needs to give 2 weeks of notice, a biweekly student works out to 3 weeks notice and a twice weekly student works out to a week of notice.

3. Illness Policy

Lessons cancelled due to illness or extraordinary circumstances with less than 24 hours notice remain billable to the client and payable to the teacher.

BAH teachers are encouraged to offer a make-up lesson at a future date in the interest of client relations and general goodwill. This only makes sense as teaching a student with the flu for example, will ruin the rest of your week's employment.

No more than 2 lessons may be made up due to illness within a 60 day period.

4. Rescheduling Policy

Any lesson can be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice.

Summer Vacation and Extended Absence Policy

Clients may schedule longer absences for trips etc. 24 hours notice is required.

It is normal and typical for students and about 20% of our teachers to schedule a break in the summer. We do not enforce a notice period (see cessation of lessons) at the end of a long summer break.

5. Evaluation Period

There are no free trial lessons with Beethoven at Home but we do offer a 2 lesson evaluation period where it is easy to try out a teacher. There are no free lessons during the evaluation period and clients may choose to discontinue the lessons at any time by providing the required 24 hours notice. After the student's 3rd lesson the required 2 lesson notice period will apply (see cessation of lessons above).
