Music has always been a big part of my life. Music lessons have given me so much more than the ability to make music. It builds my confidence and resilience, teaching me all great things come with hard work. Beautiful music deepens my affection and expands my imagination. It provides me with a safe outlet to express how I feel. The wealth of music awakens my curiosity and creativity. Over the years I have formed many wonderful friendships because of music. Music enriches my life. I am so lucky to receive these gifts under the tutelage of many great teachers, who encouraged and inspired me to be who I am. Because of them, I would love to recreate the musical education I had and pass on these gifts to more people.
As a teacher, I consider myself very fortunate to have worked with students of all ages and abilities. I started teaching when I was 16. Whether teaching high school students preparing for exams or adults checking off the piano on their bucket list, I search to design a long-range plan that will guide each student to achieve their goals. My highest intention is to help students find their own voice and develop a lifelong love of music. I have taught students as young as age 4 and have success working with special needs students, including ADHD, dyslexia and autism. It is tremendously rewarding to help students become the best musicians they can possibly be.
In our lessons, we learn the language of music and acquire skills specific to piano playing. I help students build up their music vocabulary so that they can comprehend music by sight and ears, and be able to create their own story through sound. We explore a wide range of repertoire including jazz, pop and classical and go deeper to whatever genre that brings them joy and gets them to the piano most often. I live for the moments when students make an emotional response and personal connection to music.
I hold an Associate and Licentiate Diploma in Piano Performance from Trinity of College London. I graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a double degree in Law (LLB) and Business Administration (BBA), along with a minor in Music. My teachers include Steinway pianist Carol Yu and Emeritus Profession Edward Ho from Kingston University.
I am the collaborative pianist of Mosaic Trio who toured around West Central Saskatchewan. I was the president of the West Central Saskatchewan Registered Music Teachers and have held different positions in local music festival.
