Teaching Philosophy

Music is fundamental part of my life. I have natural memory of sound and rhythm in my body and soul. As a performer, my body is a part of musical instrument. I always try to have a positive mind and soul looking at nature or beautiful art works in my daily life and try to build up healthy body focusing on stretching and relaxing my body with less tension. Healthy and positive body and mind are essential parts of successful learning process at any age and I always encourage my students to learn music with healthy and joyful body and mind.

Musical Education

I have attended the following schools earning the following degrees:
- University of Toronto - Master of Music
- Western University - Bachelor of Music
- Harris Institute - Audio Production Diploma

My principal teachers included Gwen Beamish (piano) Boyanna Toyich (piano) , Garry Kulesha (music composition) and Peter Paul Koprowski (music composition)

I have an honours BA in music theory and composition from Western University, which included performance classes in piano and music composition.

I studied piano privately from the age of six until the age of eighteen. My piano teachers from my university years was trained in European countries, and was likewise detail oriented with exceptionally high standards. As a performer I trained with professional classical teachers during my university years having yearly recitals, Juries and concerts from music summer camps such as Orford music camp in Montreal or Adamant piano camp in U.S.A. In addition, I studied music composition from several teachers including a famous polish composer, Peter Paul Koprowski from Western University and Gary Kulesha from Toronto University. I also learned advanced music theory and counterpoint from various teachers including Mark Sallmen and Ryan McClellan from U of T.

After graduating Toronto university, I studied audio production program from Harris Institute in Downtown Toronto to learn how to create and produce my own musical work professionally using recording and music production skills in my own home studio with modern studio gears such as pro tool, logic, mixers, virtual sound samples and microphones.

Awards and Distinctions

Korean Seoul Piano Festival : Gold Award ( 1995)

Special Skills and Training

I spent my childhood listening to variety of music and creating my own music improvising on my piano. It was my natural tendency to memorize music listening by ears and re-producing the music in my own musical style. I also worked extensively as a sound designer for films and animations, These experiences have enriched me both as a composer, performer and a music teacher. With more than 20 years of performing, improvising, and teaching experience, music is essential part of my life.

Policies

1. Cancellation Policy

Lessons not cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice are billable to the client and payable to the teacher. This does not of course apply to travel fees unless the notice is effectively given at the door and the teacher has travelled to the location.

2. Cessation (quitting) Policy

A client must provide a 2 lesson notice period to stop lessons. So a weekly student needs to give 2 weeks of notice, a biweekly student works out to 3 weeks notice and a twice weekly student works out to a week of notice.

3. Illness Policy

Lessons cancelled due to illness or extraordinary circumstances with less than 24 hours notice remain billable to the client and payable to the teacher.

BAH teachers are encouraged to offer a make-up lesson at a future date in the interest of client relations and general goodwill. This only makes sense as teaching a student with the flu for example, will ruin the rest of your week's employment.

No more than 2 lessons may be made up due to illness within a 60 day period.

4. Rescheduling Policy

Any lesson can be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice.

Summer Vacation and Extended Absence Policy

Clients may schedule longer absences for trips etc. 24 hours notice is required.

It is normal and typical for students and about 20% of our teachers to schedule a break in the summer. We do not enforce a notice period (see cessation of lessons) at the end of a long summer break.

5. Evaluation Period

There are no free trial lessons with Beethoven at Home but we do offer a 2 lesson evaluation period where it is easy to try out a teacher. There are no free lessons during the evaluation period and clients may choose to discontinue the lessons at any time by providing the required 24 hours notice. After the student's 3rd lesson the required 2 lesson notice period will apply (see cessation of lessons above).
