Music is Art, and without art, we have no humanity. Art is sacred to us, even if it has little impact on our lives. It is what makes us humans unique from other life on our planet. I believe it is integral for a student to leave with an understanding of music that can benefit their needs in life, whether it be for studying/practicing in the long run, or for casual/personal interest.
"It is not a matter of the simplicity or complexity in Art, but rather its emotional integrity that drives oneself to a connective state of mind."
Compared to my other colleagues, I began studying music at the late age of fifteen. Despite starting late, I was able to advance my musical education through passion, love, and having great/supportive teachers. In my early education, I took keyboard/band courses at CW Jefferys CI, & took private lessons when working on my RCM certifications. I hold a Bachelor of Music with Honours from the University of Toronto under the Classical Comprehensive Program with a minor in Composition. My primary instrument is piano, but my main focus and passion is music theory! My principal teachers during my studies at the University of Toronto consist of Mark Sallmen, Roger Bergs, Christos Hatzis, Gary Kulesha, Larysa Kuzmenko, Alma Petchersky, Elias Haddad, Maria Eduarda Mendes Martins, & Andrew James Clark. I also have little experience with Flute, Clarinet, & Voice, as I was a Tenor for two years in the Tenor/Bass Choir at the UofT Faculty of Music.
- CW Jefferys CI: Achievement in Music
My skills lie in preparing students for exams in the RCM (Royal Conservatory of Music) in Intermediate Piano & Advanced Theory, and other casual elements of learning music. I also assist students in hearing music through melodic dictation and understanding the context/importance of harmony. My other skills outside the RCM curriculum also have compositional aspects, such as having experience in Orchestration, Arrangements, Chorales, Film Scores, Mixed Ensembles, & more! While my focus is on Western Classical Music, I have been conducting studies on the music of India and what it can offer through its exotic sounds/characteristics in Western practices.
