My student's happiness is important to me, and I don't believe in prescribing the same learning journey for everyone. Building a strong foundation for your playing in terms of technique is important, but not all-consuming or boring! We'll play fun repertoire (which you will get a say in!) while we build your skillset, and I'll guide you on how to do productive practice at home even if you're short on time.
I have experience in pedagogical methods like Suzuki, Kodaly and Dalcroze; again, I prefer to bring a balance of methods to lessons tailored to suit your needs rather than sticking to every word of one practice..
I have experience tutoring children, teenagers and adults - all are very welcome and I look forward to working with you!
I have a Bachelor of Music with Honours degree from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, where I held the Sir Thomas Beecham scholarship for performance.
I also hold a Violin Diploma in Performance (DipABRSM) from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (this is a certificate that can be taken after completing grade exams in the UK).

I am equally at home with classical violin and Irish/Scottish fiddle music. Growing up in Ireland, I was immersed in Irish traditional culture and music, and am passionate about preserving and passing on Irish music. I have multiple All-Ireland Fleadh (Irish international music competition) medals for solo and group performances. I have travelled all over Ireland playing music, and even further afield, playing on stages in London, Lisbon, Seville, New York, Boston, and France. I am currently a Benedetti Foundation Ambassador, a charitable music organisation working to provide greater access to music education. With the Foundation, I attend workshops and talks with other teachers from across the world, and help support children in orchestral sessions. Since graduating, I have been working for Sistema, a musical charity that provides free music education to children in targeted areas. I have recently moved from Scotland to Ottawa to work with another Sistema branch, and am excited to build my student base here in Canada!
