Music to me is expression of one's self. From proclaiming the roaring joys of life to lamenting the hardships, music has helped me express, internalize, and educate myself with my own emotions and how I interact with the world. I believe in cultivating musicality from an early age, and have personally seen the benefits within my own life.
From a more pragmatic standpoint, learning and instrument teaches discipline and when playing with other musicians; a great deal of cooperation, intuition, and listening skills.
I don't believe music theory is required for every student, but I do believe basic ear training (teaching our ears to hear the relationships between notes) has proven to be a more useful skill overall.
Selkirk College - Diploma in Contemporary Music and Technology
I spent my childhood playing piano and trumpet from a young age. Learning RCM piano and jazz band trumpet. I picked up guitar as a teenager taking private lessons for a few years myself. I picked up bass guitar in my late teens and haven't turned back. I studied in Nelson BC with bass guitar as my main instrument.
