The quote on my high school yearbook was, "Without Music Life would be a Mistake." I truly believe without music, life would be very dull, boring and even depressing. I have also taken a lot of lessons in teaching styles from my own music teachers and hopefully have perfected all of them into a very inclusive and relaxed music setting where kids want to come to class, learn music and practice through the week. I find teaching with kindness and patience is the best policy and it affords me the luxury of my students returning again and again, year after year. I never want students to be scared of class, of their teacher or of their instrument so I make lessons fun and informative so that they enjoy coming to class. I even use a color coded beginner music system that worked for me when I was first learning violin and that my beloved violin teacher used. It takes out the stress of learning so many things when you are learning a new instrument and therefore the students can relax and learn faster and more confident.
I have a Honors Music Education Degree from Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario as well as Dalhousie and Acadia University in Nova Scotia. I played in the National Youth Orchestra as well as the International Youth Orchestra in the US. I've also played under Branwell Tovey in the Winnipeg Youth Orchestra and even played violin for Wayne Gretsky and John Candy in my youth. I received an ARCT Diploma with the Royal Conservatory of Music and I trained in violin for members of the Penderecki Quartet of Poland for 4 years and have taught violin and piano for over 30 years.
