Teaching Philosophy

Music is at the core of who I am, and I believe it’s something everyone connects to, whether through the rhythm of a heartbeat or the sound of breath. Teaching music is about helping students expand that natural connection. I treat the body as an instrument, starting every lesson with simple warm-ups to build the strength and support needed for voice or piano.

Learning music should always be joyful and stress-free. I create a space where students of all ages can explore, grow, and truly enjoy the process. Whether teaching a child or an adult, my goal is to inspire confidence and make music a source of happiness and discovery.

Musical Education

I am currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in vocal music, building on a lifelong commitment to music that began with private vocal and piano lessons at the age of three. During high school, I was an integral part of the vocal program, participating in every concert and musical over four years, a testament to my dedication and passion for collaborative performance. My training in voice has been both comprehensive and diverse, beginning with nearly a decade of foundational opera techniques under my first teacher, who emphasized proper breathing, diaphragm support, and stylistic precision. This grounding has allowed me to explore and excel in other genres, including jazz, pop, and folk, under the tutelage of instructors from renowned institutions like the Cardinal Carter Academy of Music, Juilliard, New England Conservatory of Music, and the Royal College of Music.

My dedication to vocal music extends beyond personal growth to a deep commitment to my clients and students. I approach every engagement with professionalism, meticulous preparation, and a genuine desire to foster growth in others. My teaching philosophy prioritizes tailored guidance, ensuring that each student’s unique goals and abilities are respected and nurtured. This sense of responsibility has not only strengthened my organizational skills but also reinforced my loyalty to those I work with, whether in one-on-one lessons or larger collaborative projects.

My vocal experience is complemented by my involvement in competitions, where I have represented my training and dedication to high standards, earning recognition in events like Kiwanis and Toronto Rising Star. My adaptability across genres—from opera to techno—and my participation in choir further underscore my versatility and commitment to excellence. Through it all, my loyalty to my craft and my clients remains unwavering, as I strive to uphold a standard of artistry and integrity in every performance and teaching session.

Policies

1. Cancellation Policy

Lessons not cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice are billable to the client and payable to the teacher. This does not of course apply to travel fees unless the notice is effectively given at the door and the teacher has travelled to the location.

2. Cessation (quitting) Policy

A client must provide a 2 lesson notice period to stop lessons. So a weekly student needs to give 2 weeks of notice, a biweekly student works out to 3 weeks notice and a twice weekly student works out to a week of notice.

3. Illness Policy

Lessons cancelled due to illness or extraordinary circumstances with less than 24 hours notice remain billable to the client and payable to the teacher.

BAH teachers are encouraged to offer a make-up lesson at a future date in the interest of client relations and general goodwill. This only makes sense as teaching a student with the flu for example, will ruin the rest of your week's employment.

No more than 2 lessons may be made up due to illness within a 60 day period.

4. Rescheduling Policy

Any lesson can be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice.

Summer Vacation and Extended Absence Policy

Clients may schedule longer absences for trips etc. 24 hours notice is required.

It is normal and typical for students and about 20% of our teachers to schedule a break in the summer. We do not enforce a notice period (see cessation of lessons) at the end of a long summer break.

5. Evaluation Period

There are no free trial lessons with Beethoven at Home but we do offer a 2 lesson evaluation period where it is easy to try out a teacher. There are no free lessons during the evaluation period and clients may choose to discontinue the lessons at any time by providing the required 24 hours notice. After the student's 3rd lesson the required 2 lesson notice period will apply (see cessation of lessons above).
