I view and approach Music through a holistic lens, and while I adhere to tradition and technique, I am also flexible, open-minded, and I take a student-centered approach to teaching. I am interested in *why* my students are in the lesson, and what *they* hope to achieve from it. I always begin with the student, and design each lesson according to their specific desires, requests, and needs.
The intersection of Music and Health is of particular interest to me, as well as the study of instruments themselves, which has always been a passion of mine, and I have a variety of skills and perspectives to offer each student.
I am myself a student and I always will be, and I view my lessons as an educational exchange. We all have something to teach, and to learn from each other, and I bring this philosophy not just to my lessons, but to my life.
I have a B.F.A. in Music Composition from York University. While at York I played in the West African Drum Ensemble, and studied Djembe. My audition instrument was Alto Sax. I later studied Choral Conducting and Classical Voice at Capilano University, where I sung in the Capilano University Singers. Privately I have studied Drumkit, Alto Sax, Classical Voice, Guitar (contemporary and classical), Violin, and Orchestral Percussion. I have been working on supplementary courses and pre-requisites for Graduate work in Music Therapy/Music and Health, and I am planning to continue my private study in Classical Voice this coming year.
