I focus on creating a sense of enjoyment and building confidence in piano and music overall. I aim to empower each student by providing them with the freedom and choices in their musical path, encouraging them to take charge of their learning. This could involve exploring a wide variety of musical styles and genres, establishing a solid foundation in classical piano technique and repertoire, and promoting creativity through composition and improvisation. By fostering both technical skill and artistic expression, I strive to inspire a lasting passion for music while developing important abilities that go beyond playing the piano.
I am currently pursuing a Master of Education at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay and I hold a Bachelor of Performing Arts from the University of the Visual and Performing Arts in Sri Lanka, where I specialized in Piano Performance and Voice, along with Ballet and Teaching Methodology. Additionally, I have achieved Grade 7 in both Theory and Practical from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), London.
I secured the first prize along with a gold medal at the Festival of Music, Dance, and Speech in Sri Lanka as a solo Pianist affiliated with the British and International Federation of Festivals for Music, Dance, and Speech.
I have been deeply passionate about music from a young age, initially as a performer, but my true calling now lies in teaching piano and composing music. I am a registered teacher with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), London, and Trinity College London. Additionally, I have extensive experience as a Western Music teacher for both elementary and high school students, preparing them for G.C.E. Ordinary Level and Advanced Level examinations in both theory and practical components. Beyond classroom teaching, I have served as the Teacher in Charge of the school choir, guiding choristers to perform at national-level competitions and various school functions.
