Teaching Philosophy

Music is fundamental to who I am—not just as a teacher or musician, but as a person. I believe deeply that true artistry emerges when passion meets dedicated practice. You can master technique and dynamics, but the transformation from someone who merely plays piano to becoming a pianist happens when you start truly hearing and understanding the subtle nuances—the unique story each voice tells, how they harmonize, and the composer’s vision and emotion behind every measure in a piece. Only then can you experience the profound joy music brings.
My teaching philosophy centers on guiding students to discover music as a language of their heart, much as my own inspiring teacher at the McGill Conservatory did for me. Every student is unique, with their own personality, age, life circumstances, and style of learning. Therefore, my teaching approach is flexible and personalized. I strive to create an environment where learning is enjoyable, comfortable, ensuring each student feels supported and respected.
Lessons typically include a structured yet dynamic blend of music theory, scales, technical exercises, and selected repertoire pieces. My goal is to equip my students not just with musical skills, but with a deep appreciation and emotional connection to their instrument, empowering them to find their own artistic voice.

Musical Education

My musical journey began at the age of three. Although piano is officially my second instrument, it quickly became my primary passion. My inspiration to play piano came from eagerly sitting in on my brother's piano lessons, captivated by both the beauty of his instrument and the enthusiasm he showed. His teacher, a wonderfully kind and encouraging woman, recognized early on—around the time I turned six—that I likely had perfect pitch, which further fueled my excitement and dedication.
From that point forward, my training became heavily rooted in classical music, marked by rigorous instruction and extensive participation in concerts, competitions, ear training, and music theory. These activities were not merely obligations; rather, they were joyful opportunities to share my passion with an audience and push myself to excel—an experience that always brought me happiness and a sense of pride.
At around the age of twelve, I was admitted to the McGill Conservatory of Music, where I followed their structured instrumental syllabus and completed extensive ear training and theory courses. Under the guidance of an incredible musicologist, journalist, and award-winning piano teacher, I earned my certification in 2022. Music has always been such a profound passion for me that I pursued it enthusiastically alongside my academic career in engineering.

Special Skills and Training

I grew up immersed in a musical family, surrounded by accomplished musicians who deeply influenced my appreciation and love for music. Throughout my musical education, I actively participated in various concerts, competitions, group classes and private lessons. During high school, I played in a group concert band for two years, an experience that greatly enriched my love for collaborative music-making. Notably, I was awarded 2nd place at the Crescendo Competition in 2022.These diverse experiences have sharpened my skills and strengthened my ability to connect with students, inspiring them to discover their own passion and joy in music.

Policies

1. Cancellation Policy

Lessons not cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice are billable to the client and payable to the teacher. This does not of course apply to travel fees unless the notice is effectively given at the door and the teacher has travelled to the location.

2. Cessation (quitting) Policy

A client must provide a 2 lesson notice period to stop lessons. So a weekly student needs to give 2 weeks of notice, a biweekly student works out to 3 weeks notice and a twice weekly student works out to a week of notice.

3. Illness Policy

Lessons cancelled due to illness or extraordinary circumstances with less than 24 hours notice remain billable to the client and payable to the teacher.

BAH teachers are encouraged to offer a make-up lesson at a future date in the interest of client relations and general goodwill. This only makes sense as teaching a student with the flu for example, will ruin the rest of your week's employment.

No more than 2 lessons may be made up due to illness within a 60 day period.

4. Rescheduling Policy

Any lesson can be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice.

Summer Vacation and Extended Absence Policy

Clients may schedule longer absences for trips etc. 24 hours notice is required.

It is normal and typical for students and about 20% of our teachers to schedule a break in the summer. We do not enforce a notice period (see cessation of lessons) at the end of a long summer break.

5. Evaluation Period

There are no free trial lessons with Beethoven at Home but we do offer a 2 lesson evaluation period where it is easy to try out a teacher. There are no free lessons during the evaluation period and clients may choose to discontinue the lessons at any time by providing the required 24 hours notice. After the student's 3rd lesson the required 2 lesson notice period will apply (see cessation of lessons above).
